English Language Programs

At Atlantic Canada Language Academy we offer top quality English Language Programs that will prepare you to travel more comfortably in English speaking areas, enhance your academic or professional English skills, prepare you for your English language proficiency test and much, much more!

All social and cultural activities have been modified to be fully compliant with COVID-19 regulations.

 

In-person Classes at Lunenburg Academy

  • English Core 20:* 20 x 50 min. lessons per week :  Mon – Fri 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • 4 lessons per day (50 mins each)

  • All face time with teacher (with some independent work)

  • Level B1+ – C1

Afternoon Electives:
English Intensive 25:** 20 x 50 lessons per week: Mon – Fri 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. + 5 x 50 min electives lessons / week (optional, but highly recommended to ensure faster progress)

English Super Intensive 30: *** 20 x 50 lessons per week: Mon – Fri 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. + 10 x 50 min electives lessons / week (optional, but best choice for faster progress)

Depending on the program that you choose, you may have the option to register for a Basic 20 course, an Intensive 25 course, or a Super Intensive 30 course. Basic 20 courses include 20 lessons per week (16.7 hours), Intensive 25 courses include 25 lessons per week (20.83 hours), and Super Intensive courses include 30 lessons per week (25 hours). All Atlantic Canada Language Academy courses have a minimum age requirement of 16, an average class size of 8, and a maximum class size of 14. Lessons are 50 minutes in duration.

Basic 2020 lessons per week, 4 lessons per morning in one class group, including new grammar and vocabulary (ca 40-50%), speaking, listening, reading and writing skills (50-60%) developing interesting, personally relevant themes. Usually new language is introduced in the first two lessons and practiced during the morning. Up to date media, including our own digital tools, and interactive whiteboards are used. Intensive 25 25 lessons per week, 4 lessons per morning in one class group, and 5 lessons in a second group in the afternoons. The morning General Language Program is the same as for Basic 20, while the afternoon program focuses on the language and communication skills needed for work. Lessons integrate skills and incorporate vocabulary, discussions, case studies, and role play. Communication skills include meetings, negotiations, presentations, telephone calls, and writing e-mails and letters. 252-125-9

Preparation
Intensive 25 20 lessons per week, 4 lessons per morning in one class group, and 5 lessons in a second group in the afternoons. The morning General Language Program is the same as for Basic 20, while the afternoon program focuses on the language and communication skills needed to achieve a good IELTS score, including skills and exam practice needed for the 4 parts of the test: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. 252-525-9

Cultural Activity Program Intensive 25 In addition to General Language classes, students in the Cultural Activity Program have the opportunity to explore Canadian culture. Students explore Canadian history, nature music, art, food, and literature through a variety of activities both in and out of the classroom. Students practice their language skills by engaging with the community and reflecting on their experiences through blogging or journaling. 252-520-9
English for Academic Purposes Basic 20 The English for Academic Purposes Program aims to equip students with the language, study, and organizational skills necessary to participate effectively in an academic setting. The course aims to consolidate and extend core language skills, build academic skills, and encourage and develop self directed learning skills. 2012-245-9
University Pathway Program Basic 20 The University Pathway Program is essentially the same as the English for Academic Purposes Program. Students wishing to continue their studies at one of our University partners must complete ACLA Level 7 in English for Academic Purposes in order to enter university without the need for a formal English Language Proficiency test such as the IELTS. 2012-245-9
