Michelle Alcorn

President & CEO

Michelle Alcorn is our President and the Founder of R&R Solution. Her passion is in connecting people with the right opportunity and helping them meet their personal goals. Her motivation and skilled entrepreneurial spirit have driven her career and expertise in the areas of business development, operations, recruitment, retention, coaching, leadership, training, and service excellence.

Michelle has been a successful executive and leader of various businesses across Canada for more than 25 years and has spoken on the subject at length. In 2021, she had a pivotal role at present EduNova as part of the recruitment committee. She has lived in Toronto and the East Coast; she understands both large and small communities and companies.

Rosalind Miller

VP Operations and COO

Rosalind is our VP of Recruitment and Public Relations. She loves to connect with people from all walks of life and help them on their journey. She has traveled to more than 30 countries which has helped her learn valuable lessons in problem-solving and people skills while making her a strong believer that nearly everything is solvable with the right perspective.

Her professional curiosity and practical experience enable her to understand the human factor in every situation.

She has been immersed in a wide background of community and charitable involvement over the years and enjoys being surrounded by family, passionate people, traveling, meditation, and forest bathing.

Jacqueline Huynh

Jacqueline joins the ACLA team after working as a lecturer and Deputy Dean of English at a university in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for more than 23 years. She taught and inspired students to live their dreams. She is an experienced teacher in General English and English for Specific Purposes. Her passion is to support all students in meeting their life goals through education. She works with our students daily to ensure they have a great experience in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and with our Agents to support in recruiting more students to start their Canadian career with ACLA. Each Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. she shares incredible recipes with the world on our Cooking Club.

Paula Cheal

Paula started her career as an elementary school teacher in England and when in search of adventure, retrained to teach EFL to adults. She taught in the Czech Republic and Estonia and eventually continued her EFL career in the UK while gaining her Masters in TEFL. In 2011, she moved to Nova Scotia with her family and loves living on the South Shore! Paula has experience teaching academic, general, and professional English and is a core teacher in all ACLA EAL programs.

Melanie Goode

Melanie has always been a teacher, even from a young age, but she discovered her love of teaching ESL on a summer internship in Hong Kong while in college.  She decided that this was going to be her life’s work so she studied Applied Linguistics and took her skills to people and places all over the world.  Teaching is the passion of Melanie’s heart and she has had the great pleasure of teaching students of all ages (3-75 years) in multiple countries.  Her philosophy is to help every student achieve their goals in language learning, no matter what they might be.  She is looking forward to seeing you in the classroom!

German learned English in Australia in 2007, and because of his study abroad experience, he decided he wanted to help other people study abroad because he knew it would help them grow as a person and change their lives for the better. He believes that by helping students experience a new culture and learn English, they will gain new skills to connect to the whole world. In his free time, he loves playing soccer, listening to music, and traveling. 

Marianne Stante

Marianne is an experienced ESL teacher with a background in Academic ESL. She has been teaching for more than 20 years and has travelled to more than 30 countries.

She started her ESL experience in Vancouver, BC, after a 6-month backpacking trip across Europe. She appreciated the varied cultures and nationalities she experienced and this shaped her drive to teach English. She taught in Korea for five years at various levels and ages, from kindergarten to seniors! Once back in Canada, she carried out language assessments for Citizenship and Immigration, helping newcomers study English by placing them in the appropriate classes. She comes to us from Ontario and is happy to be making Nova Scotia her new home

Marcela Suazo Pérez

Recruitment Advisor Chile

Marcela was born in Puerto Natales, Chile. She learned how to speak English in Ohio, USA, where she completed her senior year of High school. Her experience inspired her to become a teacher and she has spent more than 20 years teaching English in High Schools. She has spent more than ten years following her passion for sharing her experiences by assisting students to study abroad.

Marcela is a people person and has also worked in the tourism sector in hotel management for more than 12 years until she decided to sell her hotel and give her family the opportunity to move to Canada while studying and teaching as well.

Kelsey Hertel                                                ESL/EAL Teacher                                                M.A. of Linguistics

Kelsey Hertel

Kelsey is an experienced ESL teacher with a Master’s Degree in Linguistics and Language Teaching. She discovered her love for language learning when she was studying Spanish in Spain during college. From that experience, she decided she wanted to help people learn English to achieve their goals and dreams. After graduating college, Kelsey spent some time teaching English to children in Ecuador and Mexico. Later, she spent 2 years teaching Academic English to international students in the United States, and then she spent 6 years teaching ESL in Colombia in South America. In her free time, she loves drinking coffee, doing yoga, traveling, and exploring the outdoors.

Barbara A.C. Thompson

ESL/EAL Teacher
BA, CELTA, PENS certified

Barbara grew up in Cape Breton, lived most of her life in HRM, some time in Ottawa, and now resides near beautiful Lunenburg. She is a mother of two and has two grandsons. Barbara loves teaching English and getting to know her students, who enrich her life. 

Her favourite advice for her students is “When you’re learning English, you’ll hit hard spots at times, and that is when you’ll discover your greatest improvement. Never give up!”

Charlene Marshall

I started my career as an English language instructor but transitioned into teaching Adult Education when I returned to Nova Scotia in 2001. I am inspired by students and am motivated to work with them to meet their language learning goals and build their futures.

Jenny Berkel

Jenny grew up in the countryside of Ontario, Canada. She did her CELTA qualification in Montreal, which is also where she first started teaching. Since then, she has taught many wonderful students of all ages and abilities, gained an MA in English Literature, and moved to Nova Scotia. When she isn’t teaching, she is busy writing and exploring the South Shore.

Nasha Cunningham

Nasha is a smart, fun and focused full-time St FX Student living in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and originally from Tanzania. She is focused on a career in Business and Marketing. She has been living in Canada since 2019, working with the Schwartz School of Business to help students connect on campus. She also volunteers, supporting women globally. She loves to show the world what is great about studying and living in Atlantic Canada. She works with our team to ensure communications are clear and supports our ACLA Maple Alumni program.

Brenda Noftell

ESL/EAL Teacher – outreach N.B.T.L. , B.A., ICELT, (Cambridge University)

Brenda has a unique perspective on the challenges faced by those living and working in a foreign country thanks to her wide experience. Her career began in New Brunswick teaching High School English. She later took an opportunity to live and work in Asia. It was because of this English Language Teaching that she decided to add an ICELT certificate to her credentials. 

Brenda has taught a variety of ages and abilities from grade school to teacher training. Shortly after retiring to Bridgewater, she joined the outreach program of ACLA. With her, she brings lots of experience, training and understanding

Tainan Lima

Recruitment Coordinator

Tainan is an outgoing and motivated Mechanical Engineer. He was born in Brazil and grew up in Argentina, living in Buenos Aires. In 2019, after a trip to Canada, he decided to pursue Canadian life. He took his English program online in 2020 with ACLA and is now enrolled with NSCC, living in Halifax, Nova Scotia and studying Mechanical Engineering to develop his career here in Canada.

He loves to connect with people, solve problems, and travel the beautiful coastline of NS. Growing up, Tainan had the privilege to live in Paraguay and Assunción where he learned how to speak Guarani. He then returned to Brazil where he learnt how to speak Portuguese. We are very proud to have Tainan on our team supporting students across the world to connect with life in Atlantic Canada.

Elena Andrianova 

HR Coordinator

With a strong foundation in education, curriculum development, and academic research, Elena brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the world of language education. Having worked in diverse settings, Elena has honed her skills in analytics, attention to detail, and multilingual proficiency, including English, French, and Russian. Her life journey has taken her to contribute to Atlantic Canada’s dynamic workforce.

In addition to her HR expertise, Elena has made significant research contributions, with a portfolio of over 20 articles across various disciplines. Her excellent communication and problem-solving skills make her an invaluable asset in the HR domain, facilitating effective talent management and development strategies.
